Is there a time limit for making a WorkCover WA compensation claim?

How does the WorkCover compensation claim process work in Western Australia?

  • As soon as possible see your GP or a doctor of your choice 

2. Report your work injury or illness to your employer 

3. As soon as possible see your GP or doctor of your choice 

  • See your own doctor so they can assess your work injury or illness 
  • Ask your doctor for a First Certificate of Capacity  
  • Give the original First Certificate of Capacity to your employer and keep a copy for your records

4. Complete a Workers’ Compensation Claim Form 

  • Give the original Workers’ Compensation Claim Form to your employer and keep a copy for your records 

5. Employer completes Workers’ Compensation Claim Form 

  • Within 7 days, your employer must complete their section of the Claim Form, and lodge it (and your First Certificate of Capacity) with their WorkCover compensation insurer 

6. Insurer’s decision 

  • Within 14 days of receiving your claim, your employer’s WorkCover compensation insurer must notify you of their decision to accept, not accept or defer your claim 
  • If your claim is deferred, more information is needed for your work injury claim 

7. Continuation of your work injury claim to finalisation or settlement 

  • As part of the process of your work injury claim, your employer or their workers’ compensation insurer may refer you to their doctor
